Liz Masterson and Rex Rideout March 19

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Join us this Saturday, March 19 at 7 pm, for a house concert at Pickin’ on Tennyson with Liz Masterson from Denver and Rex Rideout from Conifer for some of the purtiest singing you will ever hear!

Liz and Rex have teamed up together for an evening of Music of the West spiced with stories, fun facts, odd instruments & yodeling!

These veteran performers are some of the finest anywhere in the West – or the East! They have each been performing for many years.

Liz, a Denver native and award winning singer, began performing Western music in 1982 and was quickly recognized as a “trail blazer” for the revival of this art form.  A founding Board Member of the Western Music Association, Liz Masterson’s roots run deep and true in the “cowboy culture.  Liz’s latest CD, Roads to Colorado, received the Will Rogers’ Award for Best Western Album of 2009.

Rex, a long-time student of the music and songs of the 19th-Century American West, has performed at countless historic sites and museums across the West. His music has also been featured on television and radio. Rex plays many musical instruments: mandolin, fiddle, guitar, banjo, and tin whistle, to name just a few.

Rex has just released a wonderful CD,   entitled Ladies’ Choice.

We are eagerly waiting to see Rex in the movie “Cowboys and Aliens” to be released in July.
A $10 donation is requested and reservations are recommended.

Pickin’ on Tennyson is located at 4252 Tennyson St, Denver, CO 80212. This music store is south of I-70 between Sheridan & Federal on the east & west and between 38th and 44th, north and south. If you need better directions than that, call Suzie, 303.638.3725.

We hope to see you soon! It will be a wonderful evening.

Happy New Year 2010!

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

2009 was a year of many new projects!   Each of these will eventually have their own pages, but for now, here’s what I’ve been up to!

My CD “Roads to Colorado” is finished and getting rave reviews!  It’s got 12 songs and a poem!  The theme is “Songs of a Gypsy Homesteader” … the push and pull of traveling and staying home!  All the great rhythm guitar tracks are done by the fabulous, Grammy Award winner, Mike Dowling! The title cut is the great song written by Michael Fleming of New West.

2 new CDs in progress! A Western Swing project with my good friend, fabulous fiddler, Ron Jones. It’s coming along, and we’ll let you know when it’s done!   I’m working another traveling cowgirl CD!

“Sweethearts in Carhartts” I’m working with Jean Prescott and Yvonne Hollenbeck! This is a fun show of poetry, music and collaborations about Ranch Women!   We’ve been well-received at some festivals, are ready to roll!    For bookings:  Jean at 325-583-2553

Discovery Channel’s MYTHBUSTERS I was delighted to fly to Telluride, CO and see if my yodeling would start an avalanche!    You’ll have to watch the episode to see what happens.

Corn Beef Wranglers – Cowboy Music with a Celtic Twist!  I’m enjoying playing with this new band that includes Julia Hays and Ron Jones on fiddle and Rock Eggen on accordion and tin whistle.  We’ve had some nice concerts and festivals this year, and looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day!

Music of the Civil War – I’m reworking this show for schools and cultural centers with Rex Rideout. He is a great old-time musician, plays a variety of instruments and is a walking historian. We’re ready to play for your school, museum or Red Hat Society!

Liz Masterson Solo – As much as I love collaborations with my musical friends, I also love the simplicity of working alone.   I’m continuing and expanding a variety of programs.  I especially st enjoy working as an Artist-in-Residence.

Liz Masterson and Sean Blackburn I will always treasure my 18 years with the incredible Sean Blackburn and miss him terribly.  I still hear from people who are just learning of Sean’s death, Sept 29, 2005.  It’s been a long, hard recovery for all of us who loved him.   I am so grateful to all my wonderful friends and colleagues who have encouraged me to keep moving.
