So far in 2010

This year has gotten off to a great start!

January….a Music of the Civil War Show with Rex Rideout

Denver Post – Feature Article by Bill Husted. Jan. 7.  Click here to read it!   http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_14135958

Arvada Center’s Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering, with Baxter Black, Sons of the San Joaquin, Wiley and the Wild West, and Michael Martin Murphey.   Among the highlights was spending time with the Australian Champion Bush Poet, Carol Huechan, and other Aussies Milton Taylor and Ruelee.

California Zephyr train ride to Elko, NV.   What a memorable trip!!!   Watch for photos coming soon!

Nat’l Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV.   The grand-daddy of them all, and it’s easy to see why!

I got to help lead the “Singalong Session” with Hal Cannon, RW Hampton, Andy Wilkinson and Andy Hedges, and Dave Bourne.   I was in a fun Yodeling Session with Wiley Gustafson, and 2  extremely talented  young ladies, Cora Wood and Brigid Reedy.  I was  the “lead mare” in a session called, “Across the Generations” with darling little Cora Wood, Adrian and Miss V, (the Gypsy Cowbelle)   It was a terrific session!!   The frosting on the cake was the great honor of being the Baxter Black’s Special Guest on his Saturday show.  What a thrill!!!   I think you  can still hear it on the www.westernfolklife.com

In addition to performing, I had so much fun in jam sessions and “vistin’ with kin.”  Elko is such a wonderful place for a reunion with the many wonderful friends I’ve been lucky to make over the last 28 years!!!

In March, I got to join Jean Prescott and Yvonne Hollenbeck, as the Sweethearts in Carhartts, at the South East Cowboy Gathering held at the magnificent Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, GA.

This is a world class art museum, and the friendliest folks you can imagine.  It was so good to hear the concert with Red Steagall.  Thanks to  Doc Stovall for all his hard work in making the festival so great!

I taught my Cowboy Songs and Western Yodeling classes at Swallow Hill School of Music, and had an enthusiastic bunch!

Barb-Wire Books in Longmont, CO is a new surprise on the Front Range scene.   Zeb Dennis organized a little “cowboy deal” with 6 of us sharing some songs and poems in this darling new independent book store. I was joined by my friends Al “Doc” Mehl, Vic Anderson, Rex Rideout and Lloyd Morris and Zeb Dennis.   We expected about 40 people, and when the calls started coming in, we had seats for 70. Imagine our delight when 230 people attended this first concert!  We were all blown away  by a surprise appearance by America’s favorite cowboys, Riders in the Sky!!!   They came straight from the airport and gave the audience a rare treat!!!   It was also Ranger Doug’s Birthday!!!

We’re going to do monthly cowboy concerts!!!  Visit www.barbedwirebooks.com
